Sander Grieve writes in Canadian Mining Journal on steps that Canada and its international allies taking to secure the minerals needed for the world’s energy transition—and what it means for Canadian miners.

This includes Canada unveiling its Critical Minerals List, provinces announcing and launching critical minerals strategies and a rare earth processing facility being built in Saskatoon. Joint initiatives have been undertaken with the United States and Europe.

Sander says that industry can be a big part of the solution, but leadership is needed to encourage investment to start moving lists into targets, targets into projects and projects into mines, processing and manufacturing. Leadership means infrastructure, permits and licences, maybe even grants and tax concessions for the value add.
