TORONTO, ON - Bennett Jones partners Carl Cunningham and Michael Mysak were honoured as recipients of the 2014 "Top 40 Under 40" in the legal profession by Lexpert Magazine at a gala held in the Fairmont Royal York Hotel in Toronto on Thursday.
Both were recognized as "rising stars of the legal community" and join the ranks of other Bennett Jones lawyers who have continued to distinguish themselves within the legal community.
Cunningham's practice specializes in management-side employment law, focussing on providing strategic advice with both federally and provincially regulated employers in a variety of issues, including drafting employment contracts, workplace policies, and health and safety. Cunningham also advises employers on privacy law issues and on labour and employment matters stemming from corporate transactions.
"It is an honour to be named one of Lexpert's Rising Stars," said Cunningham from his practice in Toronto. "This award is the result of hard work, the support of great lawyers and staff at Bennett Jones and loyal clients."
From the Calgary office, Mysak has a successful corporate/commercial litigation practice, specializing in a variety of litigation, including fraud, securities, and shareholder disputes. He also maintains an active practice in surface rights litigation, working to help diverse clients including resource companies conducting operations throughout Alberta and private landowners facing expropriation by government authorities.
"Being recognized is a nice way of letting you know you're doing good work," said Mysak, who has taught civil law classes at Mount Royal University. "In the end, all that matters is that our clients are benefitting from that good work."
The event, held on November 20, was presented by CBC News: Morning host Heather Hiscox and featured a keynote speech by Cliver Veroni, author of "Spin: How Politics Has the Power to Turn Marketing on Its Head."
