Bennett Jones congratulates Jane Bird on being named to the inaugural Board of Directors for the Canada Infrastructure Bank (CIB). Ten talented and experienced professionals were appointed to the board. The announcement was made in Ottawa by the Honourable Amarjeet Sohi, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities.
“The CIB will help transform the way infrastructure is planned, funded and delivered in Canada,” says Jane. “By attracting private-sector and institutional capital to invest alongside governments, the CIB can expedite infrastructure projects across Canada, make public dollars go further and use those funds more strategically.”
The CIB is a new Crown corporation that is responsible for investing $35 billion in federal funding in projects that generate revenue and are in the public interest. It is meant to attract private-sector and institutional investors to help build more infrastructure. By acting as a centre of expertise, and gathering comprehensive data about infrastructure projects in Canada, the CIB will also improve decision-making.
“I’m honoured to have been selected to serve on the inaugural board, and am looking forward to our first meeting,” says Jane.
