Bennett Jones is proud to announce that Donald R. Cranston Q.C. has been elected as the incoming President-Elect of the Law Society of Alberta (LSA). He will serve on the LSA's Executive Committee in 2017-18 and begin his one-year term as President starting in February 2018. Don was elected by the Benchers of the LSA.
Don is a partner in Bennett Jones' Edmonton office and is co-chair of the firm's commercial litigation team and is a former member of the firm's Board of Directors. His practice focuses on commercial litigation, medical and legal malpractice and disciplinary hearings, public administration law and alternative dispute resolution.
?In 2008, Don was inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. This is considered one of the greatest honours for a litigation lawyer in North America. He is also a member of the board of directors of the Alberta Law Reform Institute, a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America and a roster member of the Supreme Court Advocacy Institute.
Don has practiced in Edmonton since he was called to the Bar in 1979. He is a graduate of Robson Hall Faculty ?of Law at the University of Manitoba. The LSA is the self-governing association of all practising lawyers in the province of Alberta and has been regulating the legal profession since 1907.
