In light of the recently proposed amendments to "modernize" the General Anti-Avoidance Rule (GAAR) as part of the 2023 Federal Budget, Anu Nijhawan and Jehad Haymour presented at the Tax Executives Institute Annual Canadian Tax Conference on the Future of GAAR. The speakers discussed the proposed amendments and provided practical go-forward strategies from both a tax planning and litigation perspective.
