Vasilis Pappas and Artem Barsukov presented on the topic of resolving cross-border disputes using International Arbitration before the members of the Swedish-Canadian Chamber of Commerce and the European Union Chamber of Commerce in Canada (EUCCAN) in Toronto, ON. The presentation highlighted how parties to cross-border commercial transactions can effectively use International Commercial Arbitration to obtain final and binding decisions that can be enforced in over 150 countries as if they were decisions of the local courts. Mr. Pappas and Mr. Barsukov also discussed how companies can opt in to International Arbitration and provided tips on drafting arbitration clauses for commercial agreements. Finally, the presentation also covered Investor-State Arbitration and discussed the new mechanism for the resolution of investor-state disputes proposed under the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) between Canada and the EU.

Mr. Pappas and Mr. Barsukov are members of Bennett Jones’ International Arbitration Practice Group, and they share over two decades of experience in conducting arbitration proceedings, including both Investor-State Arbitration and International Commercial Arbitration.
