Bennett Jones' arbitration partners George Vlavianos and Vasilis Pappas contributed a chapter to Global Arbitration Review's (GAR) new book The Guide to Energy Arbitrations. This is the first publication of its kind for energy arbitrations and is a tremendous resource for energy arbitration practitioners.
George is leader of Bennett Jones arbitration practice and managing partner of the firm's Doha office. Vasilis is a partner in Calgary and focuses on international dispute resolution in international commercial arbitration, investor-state arbitration and commercial litigation.
George and Vasilis' chapter, “Corporate Divorce: Potential Limits to Arbitral Jurisdiction over Joint Ventures,” discusses surprising limits to the ability to arbitrate certain aspects of disputes relating to energy joint ventures. They also suggest contractual solutions to avoid such pitfalls.
The Guide to Energy Arbitrations contains 17 chapters, which have been written by many of the world's most highly regarded international arbitration practitioners, academics and most sought after arbitrators. The book's authors represent the world's key international arbitration markets, including London, New York City and Washington, DC.
Bennett Jones was selected to contribute to the book, given the firm's demonstrated leadership in international energy dispute resolution. Apart from energy joint ventures, which George and Vasilis addressed, the book covers other essential energy arbitration topics including investor-state disputes in the energy sector, major energy construction disputes, and gas supply and LNG arbitrations.
The Guide to Energy Arbitrations is now available for purchase from GAR's website.
