Specialist, Business Development and Communications (Montreal)

The Role:

The Specialist, Business Development and Communications (Montreal), is a key member of Bennett Jones’ National Marketing and Business Development Team. Reporting to the Director, Marketing and Technology, and working with the Montreal Office Managing Director, this individual will act as a strategic advisor, helping identify and pursue opportunities for revenue generation and brand awareness in the Quebec market.

We’re looking for a candidate who has a strong knowledge of the Montreal business and legal community and its major industries and can execute the sales strategy while also managing the planning and logistics of marketing tactics and client experience initiatives. Working closely with a national Business and Client Development Team, this individual will be a key player in the growth of Bennett Jones' newest office.

Essential Functions:

  • Support Montreal professionals and practice groups with annual business development planning and execution throughout the year.
  • Oversee the planning and execution of client events, seminars, sponsorships, communications, and social events that support brand awareness and client relationship building in the local and regional market.
  • Identify opportunities to build brand awareness and client loyalty, including client seminars, association memberships and industry sponsorships.
  • Assist with writing and editing proposals, positioning decks and other marketing materials.
  • Conduct market research and ensure competitive intelligence to identify strategic sales opportunities and drive lead generation.
  • Help identify, evaluate, and pursue speaking, publishing, media, and other profile- raising opportunities.
  • Help ensure client contact and activity information is tracked and maintained in the firm CRM system (InterAction).
  • Support the Montreal Office Managing Director on internal events and other initiatives designed to drive and support collaboration, engagement, recruitment, and retention.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher, in Business, Communications, PR or related field
  • 5+ years’ experience in business, marketing, or sales in a professional services environment (law firm experience strong asset).
  • A strong understanding of the business environment in Montreal and surrounding areas.
  • Fluently bilingual with oral and written mastery of the French language.
  • Strong communications and analytical skills; able to work independently and as a team.
  • Must display the highest level of client service and diplomacy.
  • Ability to manage competing and changing priorities and effectively deliver quality work under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in using Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.  Proficiency with graphic design software such as InDesign and working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite would be an asset.
  • Ability to master new applications and software, such as CRM and project management software, is important.
  • Embodies the firm values of creativity, collegiality and influence, with a passion for marketing professional services.
